Supplement manufacturing cost calculator

How much does it cost to start a supplement company? Start with actual supplier quotes. This calculator uses only the numbers you enter; it supplies no typical prices. Use one finished bottle, pouch or other retail package as a unit throughout.

Number of finished saleable units, not capsules.

Your quoted price. Include packaging if quoted separately.

Enter 0 if already included in manufacturing.

Enter 0 if included.

Include freight and duties you expect to pay.

For example, quoted formulation or artwork charges.

Your Amazon or other channel fixed fees. Excluded from first-run cash.

Enter your channel percentage, from 0 to 100.

Use the same currency as all costs.

Your first run

Enter every field from your quotes. Use 0 only when a cost is included or does not apply.

Amounts are in your chosen currency. This assumes the entire run is saleable and sold at the price entered. Contribution excludes advertising, returns, discounts, overhead and taxes. It is not net profit. Quotes stay in this browser tab.

How the calculation works

First-run cash = quantity × (manufacturing + label cost per unit) + testing + inbound shipping + other first-run costs. Landed cost = first-run cash ÷ quantity. Contribution = retail price − landed cost − fixed selling fee − retail price × sales fee percentage. Margin = contribution ÷ retail price × 100.

This is the total cost of the run before selling fees, not a deposit or payment schedule. Ask your supplier for payment terms and avoid counting an included cost twice.

Build a comparable RFQ spec, use the supplier audit checklist, or find manufacturers with low-MOQ website claims.
